Dominic Garcia Biography

Dominic Garcia is an American anchor and reporter working for CBS13 as a morning anchor and reporter from 4:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. alongside Dina Kupfer. He joined the CBS13 news team in 2023, after previously working for CBS News Colorado.

Dominic Garcia Career

Garcia earned a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication and Rhetoric from Colorado State University. Dominic began his broadcasting career in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with KOAT, an ABC station. He traveled the entire state for three years while living in the Land of Enchantment. He covered everything from snowstorms to courts to crimes. However, the people who provide so much fascination to New Mexico have always been the subject of his favorite stories such as Brett Weitzel, a cancer survivor who had his leg amputated yet continued to compete in mountain bike events.

Dominic began his first job with CBS Colorado, the sister station of CBS13 in Denver, Colorado, following his time in New Mexico. There, he covered some of the most significant stories to impact the state. When police broke into the suspect’s booby-trapped home on the day of the Aurora theater shooting, Dominic provided live reporting from the scene. He also reported on the Waldo Canyon Fire, which claimed the lives of two people, burnt more than 18,000 acres, and destroyed hundreds of homes. Although it is a lighter subject, Dominic was also swept up in the Tim Tebow frenzy in 2011 and traveled to Boston to cover the Broncos during their playoff matchup with the Patriots.

Following a job transfer in 2013, Dominic and his wife settled in San Diego, where he was employed by the market’s top CBS affiliate. There, he reported from the front lines of the Cocos Fire that destroyed 36 homes. Along with covering the national news, he also took a plane to Idaho to cover the kidnapping of schoolgirl Hannah Anderson. Along with reporting, he covered the Chargers’ move to Los Angeles, traveled with the club during the playoffs, and hosted sports. He produced a documentary on Pearl Harbor’s 75th anniversary during that period for which he received an Emmy.

Dominic returned to CBS Colorado in 2017, where he reported and created special projects, in addition to hosting many shows. He journeyed in 2018 to provide updates on the USS Colorado submarine’s commissioning. He also received an Emmy for his coverage, which focused on the history of earlier USS Colorado warships and local Colorado sailors serving onboard. During his spare time, Dominic enjoys cycling and playing golf.
