Victor Blackwell is an American news anchor working for CNN as a co-host of the weekend edition of CNN This Morning and host of First of All with Victor Blackwell on CNN. He joined the CNN news team in 2012, after previously working for WPBF 25 News.

Blackwell is a reporter, correspondent, and co-anchor on CNN’s This Morning Weekend with Victor Blackwell and Amara Walker in Atlanta. He also hosts the show First of All with Victor Blackwell, which airs every Saturday at 8 a.m. ET. Blackwell used to anchor the weekend shows of New Day and CNN Newsroom from Atlanta, Georgia, which is where the network’s world headquarters are located. In 2020, Blackwell won an Emmy for Outstanding News Analysis: Editorial & Opinion for his piece “‘Infested,’ He Says,” which was a response to President Trump’s description of his home district, Rep. Elijah Cummings’ Maryland district.
Blackwell has reported and anchored from the scene of many breaking news stories. For example, CNN was nominated for an Emmy for its coverage of the shootings that happened at the same time in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio. She has also reported from the scene of the destruction caused by Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas. Another important thing he did for the network was covering the protests after the deaths of George Floyd and Rayshard Brooks in 2020. Blackwell also wrote about Hurricanes Harvey and Irma (2017), the shooting at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando (2016), the death of Kendrick Johnson (2013), protests in his city of Baltimore (2015) after the death of Freddie Gray (2015), and other events.
On the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s death in 2018, Blackwell set up an exclusive interview with civil rights leaders Andrew Young (Ambassador) and Jackson (Reverend). The interview took place at the Memphis motel where King was shot and killed. That was the first time they had seen each other since King died.
Blackwell moved to CNN from WPBF 25 News in West Palm Beach, Florida, in 2012. While there, he was an anchor and won several area Emmys, two Telly awards, several Associated Press awards, and awards from the Society of Professional Journalists. To top it all off, the Radio Television Digital News Association gave him the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award and the UNITY Award for a special story on why so many young black men drop out of school.
Blackwell worked for WTLV/WJXX in Jacksonville, Florida, before coming to work at WPBF. He got his start in journalism by working for the Columbia, Maryland newspaper Community Times. He was a producer for Radio11 WBAL in Baltimore and a co-producer for WHUT-TV in Washington, D.C. Blackwell also did work for WHAG-TV in Hagerstown, Maryland, and WPMT-TV in York, Pennsylvania. In 2016, Howard University named Blackwell one of its Top 150 Distinguished Alumni. He has a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism from the school. Blackwell was president of his high school class at Milford Mill Academy in 1999. Howard University in Washington, D.C., is where he earned a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism.
