Brianna Keilar is an American anchor working for CNN as a co-anchor of the 1-4pET block of “CNN News Central” out of the Washington, DC bureau. She previously anchored CNN’s “New Day.” She joined the CNN news team in 2006, after previously working for CBS.

From her office in Washington, DC, Keilar co-anchors the “CNN News Central” block from 1 to 4 p.m. ET. She used to be the host of CNN’s “New Day.” Keilar used to be the host of “CNN Right Now,” a show that played weekdays at 1 p.m. and had in-depth interviews with major newsmakers as well as coverage of the day’s biggest stories. During 2020, Keilar was very important to the network’s coverage of the coronavirus pandemic. Before covering the White House, Keilar was a congressional reporter, which meant that he covered what the U.S. House and Senate did. The National Press Foundation gave her the Everett McKinley Dirksen Award for Distinguished Reporting of Congress for her work on the $700 billion bank bailout in the fall of 2008. Before she covered Congress, Keilar worked for the network as a general assignment journalist, covering a wide range of stories. She was the first CNN reporter on the scene of the 2007 Virginia Tech massacre.
Keilar joined the network for the first time in 2006 as a correspondent for CNN Newsource. As a reporter, she covered breaking news and reported from the nation’s capital for about 800 partner stations of CNN Newsource. At CBS News, she was an anchor, reporter, and director for a CBS news show that aired on mtvU, MTV’s college network. She then moved on to Newsource. She was also a guest host on Up to the Minute, CBS News’ nighttime news show, and a reporter for CBS Evening News Weekend Edition.
Before she worked for CBS, Keilar was a general assignment reporter for KIMA-TV in Yakima, Wash., which is a CNN and CBS station. At the same time, she worked in radio as a morning show host and a weekend news reporter. Keilar’s first job in journalism was as an intern and production helper at KTVU-TV in San Francisco, which is an affiliate of both CNN and FOX. Keilar got his bachelor’s degrees in psychology and mass communications from the University of California, Berkeley, and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
