Bree Steffen is an American anchor and reporter working for Spectrum News 1 as a multimedia journalist. She joined the Spectrum News 1 news team in September 2021, after previously working for San Diego Humane Society.
Bree Steffen Career
Steffen earned a bachelor’s degree in Radio and Television from Bob Jones University, where she interned for two summers at KAKE-TV in Wichita, Kansas. After graduation, KAKE hired her as a producer and reporter working the overnight to morning shift, producing the morning show and some occasional newsroom reporting. In August 2015, Steffen moved to San Diego, Calif., to take a multimedia journalist role at KGTV-10, the ABC affiliate in the Greater San Diego Area.
From Wichita, Steffen moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma., where she spent nearly three years working for two competing stations, first at KFOR-TV and later at KCOC-TV. During her tenure at KFOR, she was sent to cover the devastation caused by the 2013 Moore, Oklahoma tornado that killed several people, including children who died when the tornado struck their elementary school. As the morning reporter, she came to work at midnight while rescuers still were searching for victims.
Bree is a six-time Emmy Award-winning journalist who has also been recognized with a Silver Telly Award for her work as a field producer on the environmental documentary “Sh*t Saves the World” and an Edward R. Murrow Award for her reporting on California wildfires. Bree covers environmental, scientific, and social justice stories for Spectrum News.
