Bill Weir Accident
When Weir, an ABC “Nightline” anchor had a full body scan that showed a possible danger sign, a normal news story took a strange turn. Weir had a full set of tests done by Dr. David Agus while they talked. That included a pricey body scan that shouldn’t be used to check for diseases in people who don’t have any signs. The scan showed a buildup of calcium in an artery. The doctor told the Wisconsin man that this could make him more likely to have a heart attack in the future. But since the show aired on Tuesday night, other doctors have disagreed with that opinion.
Weir underwent a series of tests to show how to avoid getting sick. In a story that aired Tuesday, he revealed on camera that one of the tests revealed heart disease he didn’t know he had. The blood vessel problems found in Weir were so bad that the doctor who checked him out was afraid that he might have a major heart attack if he didn’t make some changes to his lifestyle.
