Mike Viqueira is an American Emmy-Award Winning anchor working for NEWS NATION as a Washington Bureau Chief Correspondent. He joined the NEWS NATION news team in 2021, after previously working for NBC.
Viqueira earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland, where he frequently serves as a guest lecturer and moderator. After spending time post-college teaching English in Japan, he returned to his hometown of Washington. Here, he got his first job in broadcasting in 1990 with NHK. NHK is a Japan Television, where he initially worked as an intern, later taking on roles as a producer and radio and television correspondent. In 1998, he joined NBC News, initially as a congressional producer and progressing to the position of congressional reporter. His contributions were recognized in 2006 when he served as the chairman of the Radio and Television Correspondents’ Association.
Following this, he transitioned to reporting from the White House for The Today Show, NBC Nightly News, MSNBC, and The Weather Channel. On June 5, 2013, he assumed the role of Al Jazeera America’s inaugural White House correspondent, maintaining this position until the network ceased operations. Subsequently, on January 28, 2021, Viqueira was appointed as the Washington Bureau Chief for NewsNation. In addition to his extensive journalism career, he is a published author and has garnered notable recognition for his work. His book, You Didn’t Get This From Me: A Novel of Media and Politics is well-known. Furthermore, he is a three-time Emmy Award for the coverage of the bailout and the 2008 election. He also received the Joan Barone Award for Excellence in Journalism that same year, for his coverage of the bailout.
