Maska graduated from Galesburg High School before pursuing her education at the University of Kansas. At the university, she excelled academically and graduated Phi Beta Kappa. She earned degrees in journalism and history with honors. She attributes her optimism and belief in collective problem-solving to her time in Lawrence, Kansas. Furthermore, she gained experience working for Kathleen Sebelius. Starting with the Iowa caucuses in June 2007, she played a key role in the Obama campaign. Currently, she serves as the CEO of the Global Situation Room, a public affairs practice specializing in crisis communications, reputation management, thought leadership, and global markets. Moreover, she is also a co-host of the podcast “Pod is a Woman.”
This podcast was named one of TIME Magazine’s best political podcasts of the 2020 election cycle. She has spoken about the challenges of balancing work and family, particularly her experience of having a son while working at the White House. Additionally, she organized the President’s Address to the Nation from Afghanistan only seven weeks after giving birth to her son. Despite the demands of her job, she continued to travel for work with her young son and remained at the White House until he was three years old.
