Stuart Varney is an American Commentator and Host working for FBN as a host of Varney & Company. He joined the FBN news team in 2007, after previously working for FOX News.
Stuart Varney Career
Varney became a radio host for Radio Hong Kong after he got to Hong Kong. During this time, he helped cover different events and worked for a short time as a voice actress for Voicetrax, a dubbing company that Matthew Oram started. As a break from Radio Hong Kong, he went to work for KEMO-TV (now KOFY-TV) in San Francisco as a staff reporter. Then, he was asked to join the first office of CNN, the new 24-hour news network that started on June 1, 1980, in Manhattan.
Varney was the host of the CNN shows Moneyline with Willow Bay, Business Day, and Business Asia. His next job was as the host of “Wall Street Journal Editorial Board with Stuart Varney” on CNBC in 2001, after leaving CNN. In January 2004, he joined Fox News’s business team. When Fox Business Network started in October 2007, he became an anchor for the network.
This week, Varney co-hosts the Fox Business Network show Varney & Co., which airs from 9 a.m. to noon ET. Lauren Simonetti, Susan Li, and Ashley Webster are also co-hosts of the show. He is also a regular on the Fox Business show Cashin’ In as a panelist. Varney has been a guest host on “Your World with Neil Cavuto.” Fox Business said on August 30, 2023, that Varney and Dana Perino would be moderators of the second GOP Primary Debate.
Varney criticized the idea that America’s poor are starving and living in squalor on the July 19, 2011, episode of Fox News’ Your World with Neil Cavuto. He did this by citing a Heritage Foundation study that shows how well-off America’s poor are by showing that they own household appliances.
Republican congressman Louie Gohmert told the same false story about George Soros in an interview in December 2018: that he “turned on fellow Jews and helped take the property that they owned.” Varney didn’t respond to what Gohmert said and moved on with the show. Later, Varney said that the comments were not true and that they were “unsubstantiated and false allegations.”
Varney said on Varney & Co. on August 30, 2019, that President Donald Trump had never lied to the American people. He said this while talking with Republican presidential candidate Joe Walsh. Statistics put together by the Washington Post’s fact checker during the presidency of Donald Trump showed that this claim was false. The statistics showed that at least 8,000 lies were credited to Trump in his first two years in office. During his four years as President, Trump made 30,573 claims that were either wrong or misleading.
