Mary Nelson is an American anchor, reporter, host, writer, and producer working for KMTV 3 as a reporting anchor. She joined the KMTV 3 news team in 2003, after previously working for QVC.
Nelson earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in broadcast journalism from Eastern Kentucky University in 2003. In 2010, Nelson participated in the debut of The Morning Blend. She moved from Omaha to the Philadelphia region seven years later to work as a program host at QVC. Mary’s radio and television career took her from Kentucky to Nashville, Washington, DC, and Huntington, West Virginia, before she first moved to Nebraska. She says that one of the reasons she finds her job in television in Omaha fulfilling is that it enables her to interact with and support the community that has been so supportive of me over the years.
Nelson is proud to support a number of organizations, including Project Houseworks, Susan G. Komen Nebraska, JDRF, Habitat for Humanity, and the American Heart Association. Nelson, an avid do-it-yourselfer, is drawn to causes that have to do with owning a home or improving the safety and beauty of a living space. She likes to work on various projects, including woodworking, tile, drywall, and framing. Mary’s perfect day consists of cooking hamburgers on the grill, watching football on the patio with “the boys,” and cuddling up in a blanket next to the firepit!
