Jen Maxfield Biography

Jen Maxfield is an Emmy award-winning correspondent working for NBC 4 as a reporter and fill-in anchor. She joined the WNBC news team in April 2013.

Since she joined NBC 4, she has covered; general assignment stories in New Jersey, breaking news, and served as a fill-in anchor on all of NBC 4 New York’s newscasts. In addition, she has covered numerous memorable and powerful stories over the years in her 20 years of journalistic career. A number of stories she has covered include; the devastation of Superstorm Sandy, Captain Sullenberger’s “Miracle on the Hudson”, the sudden resignation of New Jersey Governor James McGreevey, the response to the 2016 New York/New Jersey terror attacks, and many more.

In addition, her anchoring and reporting on the COVID-19 pandemic, resulted in NBC 4 receiving the prestigious Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award in January 2021. She worked at WABC’s Eyewitness News in New York City from 2002 to 2013. While she was at the station, she served as a fill-in anchor, New Jersey correspondent, and general assignment reporter. Furthermore, Jen also served as a general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor for WIXT in Syracuse, New York.

Maxfield has also worked at WIVT in Binghamton, New York where she served as a general assignment reporter and anchor. Maxfield began her career at CNN’s United Nations bureau where she was an intern. In addition, she attended Columbia College of Columbia University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts summa cum laude in Political Science in 1999. While she was also at the University, she also wrote for the Columbia Daily Spectator.

In 2000, Jen earned a Master of Science from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. She is an adjunct professor at Columbia University where she teaches Video 1 and On-Air Skills courses. In addition, she has been a longtime volunteer and former board member of the directors for the Center for Food Action in Englewood, New Jersey. Furthermore, Maxfield works on the Board of Visitors at Columbia College and she is a volunteer in New Jersey and New York’s non-profits such as; Bergen Family Center, Women’s Rights Information Center, JCC on the Palisades, the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation, The Opportunity Network, and Jewish Women International.

Jen is also an author and her first book; More; After the Break: A Reporter Returns to Ten Unforgettable News Stories was published in July 2022. In the book, she has revised the most memorable stories she has covered during her 20 years long career. In addition, she resides in Bergen County together with her family.
