Skirting Heresy: The Life and Times of Margery Kempe Paperback – June 23, 2014

It might have been England’s worst hour. There were already signs of the Protestant Reformation, but Martin Luther and King Henry VIII would not overturn Catholicism for another hundred years. It was against the law to teach without permission, and heresy was punishable by death. Even Catholic priests were being burned alive to stop it.

Margery Kempe came into the world. She was brave enough to follow her truth, which she knew came from Jesus Christ. But she paid a heavy price for it. She was arrested, put on trial, and even threatened with death many times. Kempe’s only way out was to be smart, and determined, and have a few powerful friends who supported her case.

This story about a woman named Margery Kempe, who is thought to have dictated the first English diary, will keep you glued to your seat. It tells the story of a brave woman, an Anglican church saint, who stood up for what she thought was right.
