Wagner received a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts-Communications from Otterbein University. His experiences reporting and anchoring in places like Cincinnati, Seattle, and Charlotte have taught him a lot. During his travels with NBC News Channel, he witnessed both sorrow and victory up close. While covering the Olympics in Sochi and London, Wagner observed the sorrow following the Charleston church shooting, marveled at the commitment of athletes, and followed the 2016 presidential campaign. Before he joined 10 Tampa Bay, Wagner worked as a primary evening anchor and senior investigative reporter at KIRO 7, in the Greater Seattle Area. There, he anchored two hours of weekly evening newscasts in the 12th largest market reaching an audience of more than two million households. Moreover, he was the lead anchor for dynamic 2020 election night coverage and field anchor from the 2016 Democratic and Republican National Conventions in Philadelphia and Cleveland. Before Greater Seattle, Wagner spent three years working as a correspondent at NBC News. During his tenure there, he conducted extensive Q&A from unfolding scenes of major news events including the 2016 U.S. presidential campaign and the Charleston church massacre.
Wagner also served at WCNC Charlotte, where he created, produced, and moderated the weekly political roundtable, and pre-interviewed 1,050 guests before on-air appearances. Additionally, he spearheaded coverage and reported live from Obama’s inauguration and the 2012 Democratic and Republican National Conventions. He spent eight years working as a primary evening anchor managing editor and senior investigative reporter at WLWT. For his writing, reporting, and producing roles there, he garnered numerous Emmy, Edward R. Murrow, and Walter Cronkite Awards.
