Chris Vickers Biography
Chris Vickers is an American meteorologist working for WTOL 11 as a chief meteorologist every weeknight at 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 11 p.m. He joined the WTOL 11 news team in 2008, after previously working for KFYR-TV.
Chris Vickers Career
Vickers earned a Bachelor of Science in meteorology and a physics minor from Ohio University in 2006. At Scalia Laboratory for Atmospheric Analysis, he worked as a senior forecast supervisor and founded and served as president of the Ohio University Meteorology Club. Living out his childhood passion, Vickers is a morning meteorologist and weather enthusiast. Additionally, he is both the coordinator and a major supporter of Toledo’s St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway. Vickers has had the privilege of visiting St. Jude in Memphis four times, most recently to pick up the 2019 St. Jude Dream Home Campaign of the Year award. He has the go-ahead to retell the inspirational tales of brave children and their families battling pediatric cancer.
Previously, Vickers worked at KFYR-TV as a meteorologist in Bismarck, North Dakota. He holds the esteemed title of Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM #282). Furthermore, he is a member of the American Meteorological Society (AMS). Vickers received The Ohio Associated Press 2019 Best Weathercast Award. In addition, he received an Emmy Award in 2012 for leading his team’s weather coverage and in 2019 for covering the Ohio Memorial Day tornadoes that occurred close to Dayton, Ohio.
In addition, Vickers received another Emmy nomination for coverage of and awareness-raising for her November 2016 St. Jude Hero run of the New York City Marathon. Likewise, he is an ardent advocate for closing the door on childhood cancer and other fatal illnesses, as well as St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. In 2017, Vickers revived the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway in Toledo. Since then, over $5.5 million has been raised for the children at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Among them, is the astounding $1.6 million that was raised in 2021 alone. Seeing lives saved and transformed permanently as a result of such hard work and community support is an honor. His life and career have altered and this experience will continue to shape it. Vickers will always be appreciative of this amazing chance.
Not only did he accept the 2019 St. Jude Dream Home Campaign of the Year award at the National Night of Recognition at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Memphis, but he also won the 2018 St. Jude Champion of the Year award. Vickers enjoys all outdoor activities, including riding, kayaking, skiing, golfing, hiking, camping, and backpacking. In 2016, he finished the New York City Marathon as a St. Jude Hero. Moreover, he most recently hiked on the Havasupai Reservation, which is close to Grand Canyon National Park, for four days and three nights.
