Charles Payne Biography

Charles Payne is an American News Anchor and Host working for FBN as a financial journalist and host of Fox’s Making Money with Charles Payne. He joined the FBN news team in 2007, after previously working for Wall Street.

Charles Payne Career

Payne started his job on Wall Street as an analyst at E. F. Hutton in 1985. Payne started the stock market study company Wall Street Strategies in 1991 and is now its CEO and lead financial analyst. In 1999, Payne reached a settlement with the SEC over a charge that Wall Street Strategies told its clients to buy members’ stocks at least eight times through recorded messages on its phone-based stock recommendation service.

The complaint said that Payne didn’t tell the truth about the fact that members paid him to market their stock. It’s not clear if Payne admitted or denied the charges, but he did agree to a lifelong injunction against violating Section 17(b) of the Securities Act of 1933. In addition, Payne agreed to pay a $25,000 civil fine.

In June 2019, Payne said, “The market crashed when President Obama was elected…” Trump went up by 9%, Obama went down by 14.8%, and Bush went down by almost 4%. Right away, people on Wall Street felt something. The claim was called “mostly false” by PolitiFact, which said that while the numbers were right, experts don’t believe Payne’s claims about what caused the market crash. Instead, they say that the crash was caused by larger economic forces and long-term trends.

Scottie Nell Hughes, a previous guest on Fox Business, accused Payne of rape in July 2017 and the show suspended him while the matter was looked into. Payne rejected the charge, but he did say that he and Hughes had been in a “romantic relationship” for three years before the charge was made. Hughes said she stayed in an apartment near Fox’s offices in Manhattan during the affair because she thought it would help her get a permanent job at the network. After she stopped the affair in 2015 and told Fox about Payne, she didn’t show up as often. Payne was no longer suspended on September 8, 2017.
