Tim Schmidt is an American meteorologist working for KMTV 3 as an evening meteorologist. He joined the KMTV 3 news team in 2023, after previously working for KOMU-TV.
Growing up in St. Louis, Missouri, Schmidt is well-versed in the unpredictable weather that the Midwest can offer. He has braved hurricanes, deep snowfall, and tornado chases. Schmidt used to be afraid of storms, especially the lightning! But it was precisely this freight that stoked his interest in weather and inspired him to enroll at the University of Missouri–Columbia, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in atmospheric sciences.
The opportunity to visit elementary schools and speak with students about the weather is his favorite aspect of working as a TV meteorologist. The best part, according to Schmidt, is showcasing his patented tornado machine and seeing their excitement when showing them clips of storms. Schmidt had worked at Columbia, Missouri’s KOMU-TV for the previous ten years before relocating to Omaha. Covering the 2018 Great American Eclipse was a highlight of his time in Missouri. During his spare time, Schmidt enjoys gardening, trying new recipes, and grabbing a slice at a local pizza place or frequenting a coffee shop. He describes himself as an “improving” golfer and is an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan.
