Sanders worked in the communications office of former Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle. In 2014, she was the deputy communications director for Chuck Hassebrook’s campaign for governor as a Democrat. While Sanders was running for president in 2016, he hired Sanders as his national press secretary in August 2015. CNN named Sanders in December as one of 30 women under 30 who would have a big impact on the 2016 race.
