Sarah MacDonald is an American anchor and reporter working for Global News as an evening weekend anchor. She now hosts the weekend News Hour at 6 p.m. and weekend Global News at 11 p.m. She joined the Global News team in 2018, after previously working for CTV News.
Sarah MacDonald Career
MacDonald studied Political Science at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. She also graduated from the Broadcast Journalism program at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. Sarah has covered some of the most significant local, national, and worldwide news stories. Sarah began working as a team member of Global National’s presidential election coverage in November 2020. She covered the race from Oregon and Washington State. She covered the 2019 Canadian federal election from the Green Party headquarters in Victoria. It turned out to be the party’s historic election night and Elizabeth May’s final one as leader.
Sarah spent weeks on location in Smithers, Houston, and Wet’suwet’en and Gitxsan Territory in 2020 as the network’s lead reporter for their extensive nationwide coverage of the Wet’suwet’en rights and title dispute in Northern British Columbia. Sarah led CTV News’ award-winning coverage of the unprecedented flooding in the town of Grand Forks, British Columbia, in 2018. After spending nine days on the ground in Grand Forks and the surrounding areas, Sarah produced a body of work. RTDNA Canada, the Canadian Screen Awards, and the Jack Webster Awards later honored the work. In 2019, Sarah’s work won the Ron Laidlaw Award for Best Continuing Coverage. During her tenure with CTV News, Sarah also played important roles in extensive team coverage that won numerous awards for journalistic excellence on a regional and national level. An RTDNA Canada award for the network’s live coverage of British Columbia’s historic provincial election in 2017 and a BCAB Award for the network’s ongoing coverage of Abbotsford Police Constable John Davidson’s tragic death in the line of duty.
