Sam Champion is an American multiple Emmy award-winning weather anchor working for WABC-TV as a weekday weather anchor at 5 pm, 6 pm, and 11 pm. He first joined the WABC-TV team in 1988 as the weekend and 5:00 p.m. weather anchor.

Prior to joining the WABC-TV team, Sam worked for WPSD-TV in Paducah, Kentucky where he served as a weekend anchor and news reporter. Sam started his career at WKYT-TV in Lexington, Kentucky where he was an intern. In addition, Champion attended Eastern Kentucky University where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in broadcast news. Sam joined the Good Morning America team as a weather anchor in 2006.

Furthermore, while Champion works as a weather editor, he has built the ABC’s News Weather, Environment Unit, and Climate. He oversaw all climate, weather, and content on all of ABC’s platforms. He also worked for the Weather Channel in 2012, while serving as the managing editor. While working for the Weather Channel, Sam created and served as the host of AMHQ, which is a 4-hour morning show. The show was also a 23.5, a climate and science interview program during prime time. In addition, for Champion’s “Sandy Coverage,” he was awarded a Peabody Award, and he won 4 Emmy awards. In 2019, Champion rejoined the WABC weather team as a weather anchor on Eyewitness News This Morning.
