Safeeya Pirani Biography
Safeeya Pirani is a Canadian anchor and reporter working for Global News as a community reporter. She joined the Global News team in September 2023, after previously working for 980 CKNW.
Pirani went to Mulgrave School. She then studied communication at Simon Fraser University and graduated from the British Columbia Institute of Technology’s Broadcast and Online Journalism Program in 2016. Before joining Global News, Pirani worked as a weekday afternoon anchor and reporter for 980 CKNW, where she began as an intern in 2015. Safeeya began her career in journalism in 2016, working as the news director and host of a morning talk show on Spice Radio AM1200. The Morning Show covered community updates, politics, current affairs, entertainment, and more.
Safeeya has a strong commitment to providing a platform for people to be seen and heard while sharing a variety of tales generated by the community. She was nominated Broadcast Performer of Tomorrow by the BC Association of Broadcasters in 2022 and received an RTDNA for her coverage of the first anniversary of rallies in favor of Indian farmers. Pirani was a preteen who had received professional training in dance and spent more than ten years teaching and performing.
She spent 5 years working as a Project Lead at Victory Arts Foundation. In order to share the joy of dance, spread smiles, and foster a sense of community, the DANCE FOR GOOD project brings together professional dancers and dancers with a range of special needs. The dancers perform at various places throughout Vancouver on a volunteer basis. Since its inception in 2013, the initiative has worked with several facilities and organizations, including The Ronald McDonald House, The GF Strong Rehab Center, The Canuck’s Autism Network, and The Vancouver Special Children’s Christmas Party.
Pirani worked as a public relations and social media coordinator at Vancouver Fashion Week. Her duties there included crafting presentations on how to build VFW’s brand and creating and publishing media releases. Moreover, she connected and engaged with local media groups and various organizations. During her spare time, Pirani enjoys fitness, traveling, baking, and leading a holistic lifestyle.
