Matt O’Donnell Biography
Matt O’Donnell is an American anchor and host working for 6ABC as the co-anchor of the morning newscast and co-host of the Sunday political show Inside Story. He also hosts and produces the True Philadelphia Podcast. He joined Action News in December 1996, as a general assignment reporter.
Matt O’Donnell Career
Over the years, O’Donnell has been in almost every community in Lehigh Valleys and Delaware while serving as a reporter. He has also reported across the country and around the world including; Brazil, England, California, and Nevada. Matt also flew with the Blue Angels. and he covered three political conventions (St. Paul and two in Philadelphia). In addition, O’Donnell has interviewed President Obama and President Trump, and covered many pivotal stories that shaped the region over the last 20 years.
O’Donnell started his career in New York a couple of days after graduating from the University of Delaware. He worked at WICZ-TV in Binghamton where he served as a reporter covering local news and politics. In addition, he covered; New York governor’s race in 1994, where he interviewed George Pataki, who won twice. Furthermore, he later worked at WSTM-TV in Syracuse, New York where he visited a community that saw 300+ inches of snowfall in one season, and had an exclusive interview with an accused murderer.
Not long after 9/11, Matt joined the Air Force National Guard as they traveled to England. For four days, O’Donnell resided in the Brazilian rain forest while the Philadelphia Zoo protected the golden lion tamarin. In addition, he has had interviews with; Sarah Palin, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump, John McCain, and Bernie Sanders. Matt was along the Jersey Shore for two days as the awaited Hurricane Irene, which was the first hurricane that hit New Jersey after over 100 years.
Matt has had the opportunity to greet; Morgan Freeman, James Brown, and Naomi Judd. Over the years, he has traveled to almost all the towns in the area while covering; tragedies, triumphs, and the highs and lows of Action News viewers over the years. Whenever he finds time, he enjoys playing the drums in a local rock band, and he has competed in several local golf tournaments. In addition, he is looking forward to being the first reporter who does live shots from Mars.
