Matt Barrie is an American eleven-time Emmy award-winning sports anchor who is currently working at ESPN. He joined the ESPN team in March 2013 and currently serves as the co-anchor of the weekday at noon edition of SportsCenter alongside Sage Steele. In addition, he also serves as the host of college football and frequently hosts SportsCenter on the Road from various locations around the country.

He was named as studio host for college football on Saturdays in 2019 prior to also calling some college football games on ESPN networks. In addition, while he has been serving as a journalist, he has earned eleven Emmy awards and three Edward R. Murrow journalism awards.

From 2008 to 2013, he worked at KXAS/ NBC5 in Dallas where he served as an anchor and reporter hosting the weekend sportscasts inclusive of Sunday’s Out of Bounds. Furthermore, he also anchored live coverage of the Mavericks, Rangers, and Cowboys prior to receiving recognition with the 2010 national and regional RTDNA Edward R. Murrow Award, five Lonestar Emmy Awards, inclusive of Sportscast, Sports Reporter, and the “Salute to Excellence” NABJ Award.

From 2005 to 2008, he resided in Columbia, South Carolina where he worked at WLTX-TV serving as a sports anchor and reporter and also as a co-host of the Matt and Tim Show on 1400-AM which was the highest-rated radio show in the Columbia market. While he worked at WLTX, he anchored the Friday to Monday sportscasts, provided live coverage from the Independence Bowl (2005) and Liberty Bowl (2006), and hosted the weekly Saturday Night Blitz and Gamecock Extra college football shows.

His journalism career started in Wausau, Wisc where he worked at WJFW-TV for one year as the station’s Wisconsin Badgers, reporter, and primary Green Bay Packers. Furthermore, he also worked at KSWO-TV in Lawton, Okla where her served as a host and reporter. Prior to working at ESPN, he also hosted College GameDay on ESPN Radio. In addition, he made his debut as host of the Scripps National Spelling Bee in 2018.

Scottsdale, Arizona is his native home. He attended Arizona State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism from ASU’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Additionally, he was inducted into the school’s Alumni Hall of Fame in 2020.
