Justin Hartley is an American actor best known for Passions (2002–2006), The Young and the Restless (2014–2016), Revenge (2013–2014), Mistresses (2014–2016). He rose to fame after starring in the TV series Smallville (2006–2011).
Justin Hartley Career
From 2002 to 2006, Hartley played Fox Crane on the NBC daily soap opera Passions. In 2006, he played Aquaman in a pilot for The CW called Aquaman (or Mercy Reef), but it was not picked up as a full-length show. Hartley played the rich Oliver Queen in seven episodes of the CW show Smallville later that same year. After Kristin Kreuk, Michael Rosenbaum, Laura Vandervoort, and John Glover left Smallville in 2008, he came back as a main cast member.
Additionally, he also co-wrote the episode “Sacrifice” in 2010 and directed “Dominion” in 2011. He played Tom in the 2008 movie Red Canyon, which was made in Utah’s badlands. Moreover, Hartley played with Mamie Gummer in the comedy-drama The CW show Emily Owens, M.D., but the show was canceled after only one season. He also had guest roles on Chuck, Castle, and Hart of Dixie.
From 2013 to 2014, he played Victoria Grayson’s (Madeleine Stowe) fake son Patrick Osbourne on the ABC primetime soap series Revenge. Hartley got the lead part of Tim in the ABC comedy pilot Damaged Goods with Anna Camp in February 2014, but the show was never picked up into a series. He was hired in March 2014 for a recurring part as plastic surgeon Scott Trosman in the second season of the ABC drama Mistresses. Trosman is Josslyn Carver’s (Jes Macallan) love interest.
Hartley played Adam Newman on The Young and the Restless, a CBS daily soap opera, from November 2014 until September 2016. Hartley was cast as a regular at the beginning of the 2016–17 season of the NBC drama This Is Us, which was revealed in 2015. Moreover, The 24th Screen Actors Guild Awards gave him and the rest of the group the award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. Hartley is a regular on the show from season eight to season ten. He is connected to the history of Smallville through the Queens’ business ties with the Luthor, Teague, and Swann families. Oliver was Lex Luthor’s childhood friend and schoolmate, and later a teenage bully. The eighth season episode “Requiem” shows that Oliver puts his friendship with Clark at risk by killing Lex, which Clark would never agree with.
Through the series, Oliver and Clark become closer and closer friends. They also become full-time fighters and work with other Justice League members when they need to. Oliver later falls in love with Clark’s best friend, Chloe Sullivan, who is Lois’s cousin, and they end up getting married. In the last episode of the season, Oliver is the best man at Clark and Lois’ wedding, and Chloe has a son in the future, who seems to be Oliver’s. During the sixth season of Smallville, there were rumors that Justin Hartley’s role as Green Arrow could be turned into a separate show. Hartley, on the other hand, wouldn’t even think about it. He thought it was his job to respect what Smallville had done in five seasons and not “steal the spotlight” because there was “talk” of a spin-off after his two appearances.
Hartley says that the idea for a spin-off never got any further than “talking.” Early work began on a spin-off show in which Oliver led the Justice League. Stephen S. DeKnight, who would later be the director for the first season of Marvel’s Daredevil, was supposed to be in charge of the show.
