Ferdinand Furer is an American meteorologist working for Spectrum News 1 as a weather anchor and producer. He joined the Spectrum News 1 news team in November 2018, after previously working for KSBW-TV.
To fulfill his ambition of becoming a meteorologist, Ferdinand relocated to Northern California after finishing high school and enrolled at San Jose State University. After receiving his degree in Radio-Television, he changed his career aspirations from weather forecasting to broadcast directing. After completing Mississippi State University’s Broadcast Meteorology Program in 2009, Ferdinand graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geosciences.
Back at the NBC Bay Area, Ferdinand produced weather pieces as a freelancer for his first job in weather reporting. He relocated to the Monterey Bay area to gain some on-air experience, moving from the NBC Bay Area down the 101 Freeway. It was then that he relocated to Billings, Montana, where he started working as a full-time meteorologist. It was in these climates that he covered tornadoes, heatwaves exceeding 100 degrees, and outbreaks of Arctic cold, 20 to 30 degrees below zero. From there, he was able to cover more harsh weather on his second job as a meteorologist in the North Dakota plains. Ferdinand returned to SoCal from North Dakota.
