Ethan Emery Biography
Ethan Emery is an American weekend meteorologist and multimedia journalist working for FOX19 WXIX as a morning meteorologist. He joined the FOX19 news team in 2022, after previously working for WBKO.
Ethan Emery Career
The Hillsboro, Ohio native is a proud graduate of Hillsboro High School. He then went to Southern State Community College, then transferred to Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. Having grown up in the Cincinnati area, Ethan has always been passionate about weather and climate since he was six years old, ignited by a phenomenon known as “snow rollers”. His inspiration was brought by the weather-changing conditions and by watching Steve Horstmeyer talk about the science behind cool weather things
While in college, Ethan interned at FOX19 NOW, which helped him prepare for broadcast meteorology. After college, Ethan served at KOTA-TV and KEVN in Rapid City, South Dakota. There, he worked as a weekend meteorologist and digital content producer, forecasting severe and winter weather for the Black Hills and Badlands of western South Dakota.
Following the pandemic, COVID-19 in 2020, Ethan relocated to Bowling Green, Kentucky, to take a job at WBKO as the morning meteorologist for south central Kentucky. There, Ethan covered the Tornado Outbreak of December 10–11, 2021, which was a historic and traumatic event, even though he enjoyed his time in the Commonwealth. For more than ten hours, Ethan and the chief meteorologist at WBKO tracked the event nonstop, even going so far as to broadcast live on Facebook Live when they lost power and data.
They were forced to track large, destructive tornadoes without any radar at their disposal and Ethan resorted to hand-drawing warning polygons and what radar looked like, to the best of his abilities. It was a night Ethan will never forget and he is thankful to be alive – especially after a strong EF-3 tornado ripped through Bowling Green, Kentucky missed the WBKO studio by 900 yards and missed his apartment by 300 yards.
During his spare time, Ethan loves outdoor activities such as kayaking and hiking. Moreover, he enjoys all Ohio sports – especially Cincinnati sports and watching science fiction movies.
