Dan Cummins Biography
Dan Cummins is an American Emmy Award-winning anchor and reporter working for WTOL 11 and FOX36 as an afternoon anchor at Four. He joined the WTOL 11 news team in 1980.
Cummins attended Illinois State University after high school and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in mass communication. He received recognition as a “Distinguished Alumni from ISU” in 2014. Cummins claims he was always aware of his desire to work in television sports. According to him, his first taste of show business came from playing Charlie Brown in a senior high school production. Cummins joined WTOL in 1980 after serving as a weekend sports anchor for a station in Peoria, Illinois. He started out at WTOL as a sports reporter and weekend anchor before getting promoted to assistant sports director. Cummins took over as the sports director in February 1996 when longtime sports anchor Orris Tabner resigned.
His favorite Fiesta Bowl story from his time working for WTOL 11 is about the Buckeyes’ overtime victory in the National Championship. Cummins states that he worked on live reporting from 9 a.m. on Friday to 5 a.m. on Saturday. He has reported on the Super Bowl, World Series, and Heisman Trophy presentations. For Cummins, Make-A-Wish holds great significance. He believes the charity helped a lot when Steven, his stepson, was diagnosed with cancer. Although Steven is now fully recovered, Cummins and his family are devoted to Make-A-Wish. Cummins has emceed several of the group’s events in addition to serving on the board of the organization. He became a member of the Toledo City League Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012.
