Chad Pergram Biography
Chad Pergram is an American anchor and reporter working for FOX News Channel as a senior congressional correspondent. He joined the FOX News Channel team in September 2007, after previously working for Capitol News Connection.
Chad Pergram Career
Pergram graduated from Miami University (Ohio) with a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in communication. Pergram reported on the thrilling House Speaker’s race. Throughout Kevin McCarthy’s removal as Speaker of the House and the multiple votes that finally resulted in Mike Johnson taking over as Speaker, Pergram provided updates from the Capitol. Prior to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) ultimately winning a vote during the witching hour earlier in 2023, he gave Fox viewers unmatched historical context by interpreting moves and strategy from the House floor. Pergram formerly worked on the FNC’s coverage of the 2022 midterm elections.
Pergram also covered the hearings of The Select Committee’s Investigation into the Attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, and covered the Capitol building’s rioters in real time from within. Barricaded in the basement, Pergram spent fifteen hours nonstop on the air, providing vital, minute-by-minute updates on the situation until the building was secured. He also consistently broke down the procedural aspects and offered timely commentary as part of FNC’s coverage of President Trump’s first and second impeachments. Nielsen Media Research reports that the impeachment hearings received more special coverage from FNC than from any broadcast or cable news outlet.
In the past, Pergram worked as a senior Capitol Hill producer, covering a variety of historical events from Capitol Hill, such as the midterm elections in 2010 and 2018, the confirmation hearings for Justice Brett Kavanaugh and Justice Neil Gorsuch, the 2016 presidential election cycle, and numerous legislative landmarks and confrontations, such as the 2010 passage of the Affordable Care Act and Dodd-Frank Wall Street reform, the debt-ceiling fights in 2011 and 2023, the tax reform in 2017, and the longest government shutdown in American history in 2018–2019. Pergram’s years of reporting have given him a unique understanding of House and Senate procedures, particularly as they relate to foreign policy, intelligence, and appropriations.
Pergram was the first journalist on broadcast or cable to officially confirm Osama bin Laden’s death and alert Fox viewers of the news live in 2011. House Majority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) was severely injured in 2017 when a gunman opened fire at a Republican member of Congress’ baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia, just blocks from Pergram’s home. The incident occurred ahead of the annual Congressional game. Pergram led the breaking news reporting and kept tabs on the situation while Scalise recovered. Pergram covered the Congressional Baseball Game as an on-field reporter for FOX Sports 1 in 2022 and as a color analyst the following year in 2023.
He worked at Capitol News Connection as a reporter before coming to FNC in September 2007. He was also a Senate producer for C-SPAN and created and anchored newscasts for NPR in Washington. Before joining WMUB-FM in Oxford, Ohio, which is owned by Cincinnati Public Radio, he started his career as a reporter at WKRC-AM in Cincinnati and WKRC-TV, the ABC station. He covered the first congressional campaign of the then-unknown John Boehner, who would later become Speaker of the House, while he was employed at WKRC-AM. The Ohio Associated Press awarded him Best Radio Reporter in 1992.
He was the recipient of a regional Edward R. Murrow Award in 2007 for his outstanding reporting on the departure of House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-TX). The previous year, Pergram won the Radio/Television Correspondents Association’s Joan S. Barone honor for Excellence in National Affairs/Public Policy Broadcast, making him the youngest recipient ever. The award came in recognition of Pergram’s broadcasts from Washington. Recipient of the award twice, Pergram became one of the rare journalists to accomplish so in 2020. He became listed as one of Washington, DC’s top 50 journalists by Washingtonian magazine in 2009.
