Amaka Ubaka Biography

Amaka Ubaka is a Nigerian-American two-time Emmy award-winning anchor working at 7NEWS where she serves as the Today in New England anchor that airs from 5 am to 10 am and the Noon anchor alongside Brandon Gunnoe. In addition, she joined the 7NEWS team in May 2016, as a reporter. 

Amaka’s name means beautiful in Nigeria. Prior to working at 7NEWS, she worked in Orlando, Florida where she served as a reporter who covered numerous stories that received national attention. Some of the stories she covered include; the ISIS beheading of former UCF student/journalist Steven Sotloff,  a mother of three accused of driving her kids into the Atlantic, and a man swallowed up by a sinkhole while sleeping in his home. In addition, she has also worked in Omaha, Nebraska where she served as a reporter and she was able to secure her first on-air job in Redding, California.

Whenever she can, she enjoys meeting new people, learning their stories, and being involved in the community. Most of her free time is spent as an emcee for charity events such as; the Igbo Organization of New England, The One Mission Buzz Off, YWCA Cambridge, Rosie’s Place, Project Hope, BMA TenPoint, and International Institute of New England. In addition, she is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists.

Florida is her native home and she had fully embraced deciding in New England and during her leisure time, she enjoys traveling, being at the gym, watching sporting events, and hiking. She attended the University of Miami where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications and international Studies and a minor in Sociology.
