Wendy Corona is an American Emmy-winning anchor and reporter working for WSB-TV as anchor of the weekday 4 pm and 11 pm newscast and a weekly reporter. She joined the WSB-TV team in January 2013, after previously working for WFAA in Dallas, Texas.
Southern California is where Wendy was born and brought up by her Mexican immigrant parents. In 1993, she attended the University of Southern California where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Science in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Spanish. Corona has also worked at KPRC in Houston, Texas where she served as an evening anchor, and has also worked at Local 10, the ABC affiliate in Miami as the weekday morning anchor. Wendy started her broadcast career in Yuma, Arizona where she served as a reporter, and later on, she worked in El Paso, Texas, and Orlando, Florida. In addition, she has witnessed a number of significant news events including while she was in college when she was present at the O.J. Simpson murder trial.
She has also witnessed the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the contested 2000 presidential election while she worked in Florida. Furthermore, while Corona worked in Florida, she witnessed several hurricanes that made landfall in South Florida. Her proudest moment was during her early working days as a reporter when she reunited an African refugee with her long-lost family members in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. For reporting on people’s abuse of the lightly regulated service dog industry, Wendy was awarded an Emmy award. In addition, she was privileged to have teamed up with Robin Roberts in Miami as they supported Women’s Heart Health initiatives and appeared on Good Morning America to support the issue.
Over the years, Wendy has served as the host of many special event broadcasts from sporting to philanthropic gala events and finding joy in connecting with the community this way. Corona is also a board member for Cristo Rey Atlanta Jesuit High School, which graduated its first class in Georgia in May 2018. In addition, she is a huge supporter of the areas of women’s health, literacy projects, education, and domestic violence.
