Politan is an alumnus of West Orange High School, where he not only graduated but also served as the captain of the school’s basketball team during both his junior and senior years. Under his leadership, the team achieved back-to-back conference championships and secured a state sectional championship. Following his high school journey, he pursued higher education at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, where he earned an AB in Communication. Subsequently, he continued his academic pursuits at Seton Hall University School of Law in Newark, New Jersey. After serving as a prosecutor in Bergen County, New Jersey, he transitioned from the legal field to journalism.

Post his prosecutorial role, he ventured into the private legal sector, including working at the Carella-Byrne law firm in New Jersey. His final legal position was as in-house counsel for the supermarket chain Grand Union. His journalism career includes his tenure at Channel 10 News in New Jersey, where he served as a reporter and anchor. In this role, he covered a wide range of topics, including general news, and legal stories, and moderated political debates. Additionally, he produced and hosted a weekly legal program titled “Bergen County Justice with Vinnie Politan.” Later, he worked as an AP reporter and then an anchor for Central Florida News 13 in Orlando.

In the year 2000, he served as a correspondent for Time Warner, covering both the Democratic and Republican National Conventions. Following his departure from HLN in July 2014, he became the anchor for “11 Alive,” Atlanta’s NBC affiliate. During his time at WXIA, he hosted the “Late Feed,” a late-night show featuring local newsmakers, headlines, and in-depth legal coverage, earning him an Emmy Award. In 2018, he took on the role of lead anchor for the relaunch of Court TV in May 2019. Politan is the host and creator of the primetime show “Closing Arguments with Vinnie Politan,” which stands as the highest-rated primetime program on the network.

Previously, he co-created and hosted “After Dark,” a successful show on HLN featuring an in-studio jury, marking it as the network’s highest-premiering show in its history. Before that, he anchored “Prime News with Vinnie Politan” on HLN and HLN Special Report. Additionally, he co-anchors “In Session” on the cable network truTV. In addition, he has also co-anchored shows like “Bloom & Politan: Open Court” (with Lisa Bloom) and “Both Sides” (with Kimberly Guilfoyle). Throughout his tenure at Court TV since January 2001, he has covered a myriad of trials, including those involving Jodi Arias, Trayvon Martin, Casey Anthony, Johnny Depp, Alex Murdaugh, Sean “Puffy” Combs, O. J. Simpson, Scott Peterson, Kobe Bryant, Darrell Brooks, and Kyle Rittenhouse, among many others. In addition to his television work, he hosted the morning radio show “Me and Vinnie” on Sirius XM Radio’s Stars Too station.
