Tyrese Maxey is an American professional basketball player for the Philadelphia 76ers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He previously played college basketball for the Kentucky Wildcats.

Maxey was still available late in the first round of the 2020 NBA draft, despite initial expectations that he would be a lottery pick. Rather, the Philadelphia 76ers chose him with the 21st overall pick, in one of Daryl Morey’s first choices as the team’s president of basketball operations. On December 3, 2020, Maxey agreed to a rookie scale contract with the team. Maxey scored eight and eleven points in limited minutes during two preseason games. For this, head coach Doc Rivers declared him “one of our main bench guys” for the 2020–21 campaign.

On December 23, the opening game of the season, he made his NBA debut with the 76ers against the Washington Wizards. He concluded his second season with 17.5 points per game and shooting 48.5 percent from the field and 42.7 percent from three-point range. He also scored 25 points in the 76ers’ regular-season finale against the Detroit Pistons. In the first round of the NBA playoffs in 2022, the Toronto Raptors and the 76ers squared off. In May 2018, right before his senior year of high school, he committed verbally to the University of Kentucky, despite receiving offers from several collegiate basketball programs, including Michigan State, the University of California, Los Angeles, and Southern Methodist University. That November, Maxey signed a National Letter of Intent with Kentucky.
