Trent Butler Biography
Trent Butler is an American anchor working for FOX54 as an Evening Anchor at 6:30 pm, 10 pm and 11 pm newscasts. He joined the FOX54 news team in April 2022, after previously working for WAFF 48.
Butler, originally from Atlanta, holds a BA in Broadcast News from the University of Georgia. Currently, he anchors the evening newscasts at the FOX affiliate in Augusta, Georgia for Fox 54. He was with the WAFF-TV prior to joining Fox 54 where he was a co-anchor. In addition to that, he also contributed to two weekly segments for the Huntsville Area Crime Stoppers program. Before joining the WAFF 48 News team in June 2015, he served as co-anchor for evening newscasts at WIAT-TV in Birmingham. His professional journey has taken him to various locations in the South, including Greenville, South Carolina; Augusta, Georgia; and Fort Myers, Florida. During his 11 years in Florida, he covered numerous hurricanes, including those that directly hit Southwest Florida in 2004 and 2005.
His reporting took him to major events like the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia and the World Series in Cleveland. Notably, he was recognized as the “Best News Anchor” by the readers of the “News-Press” in Fort Myers. He has diverse reporting experiences, from covering the Masters in Augusta to reporting live from the Democratic Presidential Debates at South Carolina State University. In Greenville, South Carolina, politics became a focal point. Where he profiled all the candidates for South Carolina governor and reported from the Republican Presidential debates. His work at WHNS-TV earned the team an award for the best newscast by the Associated Press.
His tenure at WIAT-TV in Alabama included winning an Alabama Broadcasters Association award for the station’s election coverage in November 2014. Moreover, he faced challenging assignments, such as reporting live from a deadly workplace shooting at UPS in Birmingham and providing continuous live coverage during a winter storm that virtually shut down Birmingham in 2014. His strong ties to Alabama are reflected in his roots, with his mother growing up in Talladega, and he cherishes memories of spending summer days and holidays at his grandmother’s home there.
