McShane went to California College of Arts and Crafts and Drexel University. She spent a significant amount of time working as a graphic designer. McShane worked at several other jobs in the years that followed. She started “Moomah the Magazine” after working at the Bronx Zoo after earning her degree in veterinary science. It started out as the Moomah Café, a gathering place for families in lower Manhattan. Its rear section became a children’s enrichment center, and its front section served as a café. Even though the hub eventually shut down, “Moomah the Magazine” is still a testament to its spirit.
McShane and her family joined Farm Sanctuary in the last several years. Farm Sanctuary has named two rescued sheep after McShane and Stewart as a way of saying thank you for their support. A $4 million farm in New Jersey, home to numerous farm animals that have been rescued, has been acquired by the family. McShane’s children’s book, “Do Unto Animals: A Friendly Guide to How Animals Live, and How We Can Make Their Lives Better,” was released by Artisan on October 20, 2015.
