Tonya Francisco is an American anchor and reporter working for WGN-TV as the co-anchor of Daytime Chicago alongside Amy Rutledge. She joined the WGN News team in 2012.
Chicago is Francisco’s native home and she attended Whitney Young Magnet High School where she graduated with a high school diploma. Later on, she joined the University of Illinois at Chicago where she graduated proudly. In addition, Tonya is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Before Tonya took up her current role as co-anchor of Daytime Chicago, she served as a co-anchor of WGN Weekend Morning News and a general assignment reporter. Francisco joined CLTV in December 2002, and not long after, she was named as the station’s morning anchor.
Furthermore, Francisco is an award-winning journalist who started her television career at WLS-TV/Channel 7 in Chicago where she served as a desk assistant. Not long after, she relocated to Grand Rapids, Michigan where she worked at WOOD-TV as an associate producer and reporter. After having worked at WOOD-TV for a year, she joined WJRT-TV in Flint, Michigan as a general assignment reporter and worked her way up to becoming a weekend anchor.
