Tony Perkins is an American Emmy-Award Winning anchor working for WRC-TV as an anchor for the News4 Today. He joined the WRC-TV news team in 2023, after previously working for WUSA.

Perkins completed his elementary education in Washington, D.C., followed by junior high school in both Maryland and Virginia. In 1977, he graduated from Mount Vernon High School in Alexandria, Virginia. During his high school years, he demonstrated a commendable academic performance and actively participated in numerous extracurricular activities. Notably, he made history by becoming the first black editor-in-chief of the school’s student newspaper.
In 1981, he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the School of Communication at American University. During his time there, he was actively involved with the campus radio station, contributed to the black student newspaper, and played a key role in the establishment of the campus television station. Prior to entering the field of journalism, he pursued a career as a professional stand-up comedian from 1983 to 1993.
During this period, he performed at various clubs and colleges nationwide, gaining valuable experience. It was during this time that he crossed paths with Donnie Simpson and eventually began working for him as an off-air producer. Additionally, he had already been involved in radio, working for Cathy Hughes at WOL. Even as his career evolved, he maintained a connection with his alma mater, American University, and remained actively engaged as a member of the Dean’s Council at the School of Communication.
His ongoing commitment to supporting and contributing to the academic community has been a consistent aspect of his professional journey. Following his success, he hosted the acclaimed show “DC20 Breakaway,” earning him an Emmy Award. He then transitioned to WTTG-TV, where he took on the roles of the morning weatherman and feature reporter. In 1998, he became a part of the Good Morning America team, contributing weather reports and feature stories during the early morning hours. Over the course of six years, he covered numerous hurricanes, weather events, and conducted interviews with various celebrities.
Feeling a connection to the Washington region, he returned to WTTG in 2006, eventually becoming the anchor for the evening newscasts alongside Shawn Yancy. This tenure earned him a second Emmy award. In 2018, Perkins and Donnie Simpson reunited for an afternoon show on MAJIC 102.3 and 92/7, where they continue to co-host from 3 to 7 p.m. Additionally, he spent three years anchoring the morning news on WUSA-TV.
