Gerber claims that his choice took years to come and that it was discussed frequently with his wife regarding their future. Following his mother-in-law’s tragic death in 2021 from a fatal illness, which changed his wife’s life and forced her to temporarily return to Ohio to assist in caring for her mother, the talks really got going. After his mother-in-law passed away in 2021, Gerber had to take on significant family care responsibilities, which apparently made him reevaluate his goals and decide to move back home quickly.
