Fortune described her as a “peerless authority” whose name has become synonymous with youth culture online, especially during her time at The Daily Beast and The Atlantic. Accusation of doxxing and Libs of TikTok
On April 19, 2022, The Washington Post published an article by Lorenz about the right-wing Twitter account Libs of TikTok and disclosed the identity of the account owner as Chaya Raichik. Who is an Orthodox Jew working in real estate. The article initially included a link to Raichik’s real estate license, retrieved from early versions of the Libs of TikTok Twitter account. The article sparked controversy, with Lorenz facing accusations of doxxing, antisemitism for mentioning Raichik’s religion, and hypocrisy for her previous stance against online harassment. Raichik accused Lorenz of doxxing and asserted that she “will never be silenced,” also claiming a violation of her right to free speech.
Lorenz responded in a tweet, stating that her “whole family was doxed again this morning” and that trolls had moved on to doxing and stalking her friends tagged on Instagram. Supporters of Lorenz pointed out that Raichik’s followers were enthusiastic about doxxing when it came to smearing teachers as pedophiles, according to The Times of London. In response to the controversy, YouTuber Tim Pool and The Daily Wire CEO Jeremy Boreing purchased a billboard in Times Square accusing Lorenz of doxxing. She dismissed the billboard as “so idiotic it’s hilarious.”

The article claimed that two YouTubers mentioned, LegalBytes and ThatUmbrellaGuy, were contacted for comment before publication. However, both YouTubers denied being contacted, leading to a series of editorial corrections to the article. The corrections eventually included an admission that stealth editing had violated the paper’s policy. She attributed the errors to a miscommunication with her editor in a tweet. Critics accused her of passing the blame. The tweet was reportedly discussed and agreed upon by Lorenz and multiple editors.
Subsequently, The New York Times reported that she had been moved from the features staff to the technology team. Cameron Barr, a senior managing editor at The Washington Post, had been asked to review her articles before publication. However, she denied that she had been demoted.
