Steve Staeger is an American anchor and reporter who is currently working at 9NEWS. He joined the 9NEWS team as a General Assignment Reporter in March 2014.
Steve Staeger Career
Previously, he worked at WCIA-TV in Springfield, Ill where he served as the Capitol Bureau Chief for a period of four years. While he was in Springfield, he covered legalizing civil unions then same-sex marriage, the state’s decision to abolish the death penalty, and the state’s looming budget problems.
Furthermore, he covered the corruption trial and re-trial of former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, then followed the former governor here to FCI Englewood, where he is currently serving a 14-year sentence. He has also traveled to Tampa, Florida, and Charlotte, N.C. where he covered the 2012 Republican and Democratic National Conventions.
Prior to coming to Illinois, he was an associate producer at WDIV-TV in Detroit, near where he was brought up. He attended Oakland University in Rochester, Mich where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communication and journalism.
During his leisure time, he enjoys getting outdoors whether it’s a hike or 18 holes and enjoys spending time in the kitchen and out at restaurants across the metro area.
