Steve MacLaughlin Biography
Steve MacLaughlin is an American five-time Emmy award-winning meteorologist working for NBC6 as a meteorologist and climate change reporter. He joined the NBC6 news team in February 2017.
MacLaughlin career started at NBC 4 in New York City where he was an intern and later on, he was hired by NBC 4 as a weather producer on NBC’s “Today” show where he worked under his mentor Al Roker. After having graduated from college, Steve relocated to Richmond, Virginia where he worked for NBC 12. Not long after, he worked for WPHL in Philadelphia where he served as the chief meteorologist. In addition, Steve has also worked for KXAS, the NBC-owned station in Dallas, Texas where he spent 6 years.
Furthermore, MacLaughlin served as a fil-in at The Weather Channel, CNBC, MSNBC, and PIX 11 in New York City. Over the years, Steve has won five Emmy awards and not long ago, he received an Emmy under the category of Best Weathercast in 2021. He also earned another emy in 2019, for “Outstanding Weathercaster,” and over the years, Steve has received a total of sixteen Emmy nominations. In addition, he received the Associated Press Award for Best Weathercaster”.
Steve attended Rutgers University in New Jersey where he earned a degree in meteorology and a double major in broadcast journalism. He also received a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist through the American Meteorological Society. MacLaughlin had the privilege of hosting the annual galas for; Latinos Salud, The Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida, and Equality Florida. In addition, he was a Grand Marshal for the Wilton Manors Stonewall Pride Parade. Furthermore, he is a vegan and an animal rights advocate. during his spare time, he enjoys listening to music, playing the guitar, playing the drum, singing, and songwriting.
