Steve Johnson is an American anchor working for WHNT as the co-anchor of the weekday morning newscast. He joined the News 19 team on May 2, 1977.
Greensboro, North Carolina is his native and his family relocated to Huntsville when he was in the third grade after his father had secured a job with the Army Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal. He attended Huntsville High School where he graduated with a diploma then later majored in Journalism, with minors in speech, English, and history. After graduating, Johnson secured a job at a small TV station that no longer exists, WHMA in Anniston. In addition, Steve’s family relocated to Rocket City and he secured a job at Action News 19 as a sports director in May of 1977.
Furthermore, Johnson began transitioning from sports to the news at WHNT News 19 in late 1999. While working at WHNT, he has served as a special assignment reporter and senior reporter, and he is currently the co-anchor of the weekday morning news. In addition, Johnson does the stations Leadership Perspectives interviews that are posted on WHNT.Com each Friday and can also be seen on the Sunday morning news.
He also does the station’s “Defending America” reports that highlight the work in the north Alabama aerospace and defense community as well as what happens on Redstone Arsenal both in defense and at Marshall Space Flight Center. During his leisure time, he enjoys riding his bike, collecting first-edition books, and spending ample time with his family.
