Stephanie Lum is an American anchor and reporter working for Hawaii News Now as a weekday evening anchor at 5 pm, 5:30 pm, 9 pm, and 10 pm. She joined the Hawaii News Now team in 2001, after previously working at KGMB9.
Lum attended Seattle University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. While she was at Seattle University, she was often seen around a video camera and tripod gathering stories and also spending late nights in the editing lab. She interned for 4 years in Hawaii and Washington State before she was able to secure her first job in Guam where she covered her first major story. In addition, while she worked in Guam, she was able to uncover health hazards at a popular restaurant in addition to earning her first professional news award as Best Spot News, as a result of the exclusive investigative report.
While she worked in such a small market, she learned to be a jack-of-all-trades as she would produce, write under deadline, report, edit, and anchor. After she worked in Guam for 2 years, she later decided to work at KGMB 9 New, and later in 2001, she relocated to K-FIVE and KHNL. Furthermore, for Stephanie’s reporting in Hawaii, she has earned three awards for Best Feature Story, Best Series Reporting, and Best General News Story. Lum feels lucky to have had the opportunity to cover a number of significant stories through the years such as the February 27th tsunami, the arrival of President Barack Obama in Hawaii, and the October 2006 earthquake.
