Stephanie Elam is an American anchor and reporter working for CNN as a news correspondent. She joined the CNN news team in December 2005, after previously working for KNBC-TV.

Elam works as a CNN correspondent and is based in the Los Angeles bureau. Elam has covered a lot of different kinds of stories since moving to the West. She was in charge of CNN’s coverage of Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano in 2018 when it erupted and destroyed a lot of the Leilani Estates neighborhood on the Big Island. When Elam got there, just hours after the earthquake started, he took pictures of the lava flow that was destroying everything in its way. She and her team were able to take pictures just feet away from a crack that was still active.
Along with Hurricanes Matthew, Harvey, and Irma in the Southeast, Elam has covered many natural disasters for CNN. In Moore, Oklahoma, an EF5 tornado killed 15 adults and 9 children, and in the West, Elam has covered several wildfires, including the Thomas Fire, which was the largest wildfire in California’s history at the time. Elam has also written about the risk of earthquakes in the Cascadia Subduction Zone in the Pacific Northwest, California’s drought, and related problems such as the central valley of the state sinking.
Elam also went to Minneapolis when the polar vortex moved into the North and made it feel like -44 degrees outside. She was also out in the pouring rain in St. Joseph, Missouri, for the 2017 sun eclipse, which was well-attended despite the weather. Elam covered more than just the weather. She also covered the death of the famous artist Prince from Minnesota and the shooting death of unarmed teenager Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. In Los Angeles, she reported about the Donald Sterling affair, which involved racist comments made by the former owner of the Los Angeles Clippers.
She was also one of the first reporters to arrive at Los International Airport after a shooting that left thousands of travelers stuck and killed TSA agent Gerardo Hernandez.
