Spencer Christian is an American weather anchor working for KGO-TV where he serves as the chief weather anchor and can be seen on weekdays at 4 pm and 6 pm. He joined ABC 7 in January 1999.
Spencer Christian Career
Christian has served as a television broadcaster for over fifty years. During this time, he has served as a news reporter, talk show host, sportscaster, and weather forecaster. He has traveled to all the 5o states of America and to 5 continents. Christian has also had the opportunity to interview 6 presidents, people who have done extraordinary things, and prominent figures in; world affairs, sports, and art. In addition, he has also covered floods, earthquakes, blizzards, hurricanes, and every natural calamity known to mankind.
During Spencer’s childhood days, he would read the newspaper on a daily basis so as to satisfy his curiosity about the world. In the 1960s, he joined college where he majored in English and minored in journalism. He also played basketball and he has a major league tryout during his junior year. Christian started his career in 1971, at the NBC TV affiliate in Richmond, Virginia where he served as a news reporter.
Apart from serving as a general assignment reporter, he has also covered; the federal courts, state and local politics, and education. In the mid-1970s Spencer worked at the NBC station in Baltimore before later relocating to New York where he worked at WABC-TV where he worked for 9 years. In addition, he first joined the station as a weatherman then became a morning show host, and lastly a sportscaster.
While Christian worked at WABC, he often appeared on ABC’s Good Morning America where he filled in on the weather segment. He then joined Good Morning America as a co-host, feature reporter, and full-time weather forecaster in 1986. Furthermore, he served as a spokesperson for ABC’s literacy campaign for the next 13 years while also traveling all around the world. From 1995 to 2000, he served as the host of Spencer Christian’s Wine Cellar which aired on HGTV, and later on the Food Network.
Not long ago, he released his memoir in 2018, entitled You Bet Your Life: How I Survived Jim Crow Racism, Hurricane Chasing, and Gambling. During his spare time, he enjoys watching baseball, visiting wineries, doing community service, and working out at the gym.
