Sophie Lui is a Canadian anchor and reporter working for Global News as an Anchor of Global News from 5 to 5.30 pm on weekdays and Co-Anchor of Global News Hour at 6 alongside Chris Gailus. She joined the Global News news team in 2007, after previously working for CHEK-TV.
Lui, a native of the Lower Mainland, has been immersed in the world of news from an early age. Graduating from BCIT’s Broadcast Radio program, she initially worked at several news radio stations before transitioning to television news at CHEK-TV in Victoria. She later returned to Vancouver, joining Global BC. Currently, she serves as the Anchor of Global News at 5 and Co-Anchor of Global News Hour at 6. Her previous roles include co-hosting Global News Morning and Global Weekend Mornings. These are experiences she humorously notes have yet to compensate for the 10 years of lost sleep. Throughout her career, she has received numerous awards, such as the Leo Award for Best Host for her travel program, Get Lost.
In 2023, she and her colleagues were honored with a Canadian Screen Award for Best Local Newscast for Global BC News Hour at 6.
