Sophia Choi is a South Korea-born American anchor and reporter working for WSB as a weekend morning anchor and weekday investigative reporter. She joined the WSB team on July 8, 2011, after previously working for KVBC-TV.
Sophia Choi Education
Daegu, Korea is Sophia’s native home, and her family relocated to the United States when she was seven years old. She joined Hollywood Elementary School in Hollywood, Maryland and after her father’s death, her family relocated to Memphis, Tennessee. Cho then joined Briarcrest Baptist High School where she graduated proudly and moved to the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism. In addition, while she was in college, she worked at the University’s television station KOMU-TV and its radio station KBIA.

Choi began her professional career in a professional career in Lynchburg, Virginia where she worked for WSET-TV as a general assignment reporter. Later on, she relocated to Birmingham, Alabama where she worked for NBC affiliate, WVTM-TV as a general assignment reporter and she worked her way up the ladder to being the weekend morning anchor. In addition, while she worked for NBC-13, she got nominated for an Emmy Award for her series on child predators and won an Associated Press Award. Furthermore, she then joined KCBS-TV, the CBS affiliate in Los Angeles where she started off as a general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor, and was later promoted to serving as the weekday morning anchor.
Sophia relocated to Atlanta, Georgia in 2001, and worked for CNN Headline News as a prime-time anchor. While she worked for CNN Headline News, she served as the anchor of a number of newscasts on CNN International, CNN, and CNN Headline News. In addition, she has also covered a number of breaking news stories such as; the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, Hurricane Wilma, and Hurricane Katrina. However, in 2006 Choi’s time at CNN Headline News came to an end and she traveled to Shanghai, China with the University of Missouri School of Journalism on a speaking tour.
Choi joined KVBC-TV in 2007, as the co-anchor of First News 3 at Four and News 3 at Six alongside Kendall Tenney till 2009. She became the anchor of First News 3 at Four with Jeff Gillan and News 3 at Six with Jim Snyder in 2010. During her time at KVBC, she reported on crime trends in the Las Vegas Valley, through the Crime Tracker 3 franchise. However, KVBC notified Sophia that her contract would not be renewed on May 28, 2010, thus marking the end of her road at the station. Furthermore, she joined WSB-TV on July 8, 2011, as a reporter, and later on January 1, 2013, was when she took up her current role as a weekend morning anchor and weekday reporter.
