Shayla Reaves Biography
Shayla Reaves is an American Emmy award-winning reporter and anchor working for WCCO-TV as a morning, mid-day and noon anchor. She joined the WCCO-TV team in December 2020, after previously working for WNCT.
Shayla Reaves Career
Reaves has served as a journalist for over ten years and during this time, she has served as an anchor and reporter. Prior to relocating to the twin cities, Shayla worked in Tampa, Florida, Louisville, Kentucky, Greenville, North Carolina, and Columbus, Ohio. While Shayla was in Greenville, she worked for WNCT-TV (CBS) where she served as the co-anchor of the evening newscast. In addition, while she was in the station, she assisted in developing a weekly web series known as Let’s Craft and produced half-hour specials for television and the web.
Furthermore, while Reaves was in Tampa, she worked at WTVT where she served as a field reporter for the morning show, “Good Day Tampa Bay.” Shayla covered hurricanes, breaking news, and news overnight for four years while working at WTVT. In addition, she also delivered many live reporters for Fox network affiliates as requested and for “Fox and Friends”
Shayla also served as a fill-in anchor in Columbus, Ohio, and Tampa. While she was in Columbus, she earned an Emmy award for covering a train derailment and explosion. She has also worked in Louisville, Kentucky at WAVE-TV where she served as a reporter for four years till August 2010, when she left the station.
Reaves attended Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in journalism in 2006. She was named the top broadcast student in her graduating class and received the university’s prestigious Gary Cummings Award. In addition, she was also selected by the Association of Women Journalists-Chicago as an Outstanding Woman Journalism Student. The Illinois News Broadcasters Association recognized Reaves for her reporting. Furthermore, the Associated Press and the Society of Professional Journalists have awarded her for her outstanding work. During her downtime, she enjoys exploring the Twin Cities, crafting, and spending ample time with her husband.
