Shawn Yancy Biography
Shawn Yancy is an American Emmy-winning anchor working for NBC4 as an evening anchor. She joined the NBC4 team in January 2021, after previously working for FOX 5 News in Washington D.C.
Yancy was brought up in Indiana and she attended Ball State University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in telecommunications. While she was at Ball State University, she became a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated. Shawn’s journalism career has involved stops at WTAE-TV in Pittsburgh and at WKJG-TV in Fort Wayne. In 2001, she relocated to the Washington, D.C. area together with her family and she started working for WTTG-TV as the co-anchor of the 5, 6, 6:30, 8, 10 & 11 pm weekday newscasts.
While she worked at FOX5/WTTG-TV, she covered; the US Invasion of Iraq, the DC sniper attacks, the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington, hurricane Isabel, and the unrest following the death of George Floyd. In addition, she worked at FOX5 for 19 years and she mostly did evening and late-night newscasts. Over the years, she has received a number of Emmy awards and an Edward R. Murrow award for an investigative story on asbestos problems at the National Institutes of Health.
Furthermore, she has served on the board for A Wider Circle and also on the boards for The St. Ann’s Center for Children, Youth & Families, and Success DC. She has also joined other newswomen in D.C. in leading a yearly fundraiser for local charities assisting underserved breast cancer patients with treatment and services. Shawn is also a professional artist who has clients nationwide.
