Sean McLaughlin Biography

Sean McLaughlin is an American meteorologist and anchor working for 3TV as a news anchor and meteorologist. He joined Arizona’s Family in December 2021, after previously working for CBS 5 for 16 years. 

McLaughlin attended Mississippi State University where he earned a certificate in broadcast meteorology. He also studied at Lowa State University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in journalsim and mass communications. Sean has served as a broadcast journalist for more than 30 years and served in multiple roles at Arizona’s Family, from weather forecasting to news anchoring to special event coverage.

Over the years, he has worked at MSNBC where he served as the weekday main meteorologist for 2 years. He has also worked for NBC as a Sunday weather anchor on the Weekend Today Show in New York City. For more than 90 times, McLaughlin filled in for the iconic Al Roker on the Today Show and made appearances on CNBC, NBC’s Nightly News, and many countless network affiliates during the historic winter seasons and hurricanes from 2004 to 2006. In addition, from 2006 to 2012, he broadcasted the weather on the morning/evening shows, appearing many times on the CBS Evening News, and filling in often on The Early Show.

In addition, Sean has covered many Super Bowl and Olympic Games. For his over 25 years of broadcast excellence, he was inducted into the prestigious NATAS Silver Circle, and for his news and weather broadcasting, he has won eleven regional Emmy awards. The National Weather Association awarded McLaughlin its Broadcast Seal of Approval.
