Sean Casey Biography
Sean Casey is an American professional baseball first baseman and coach working for MLB Network as a studio analyst and host. He joined MLB in January 2009 after previously working for the Boston Red Sox.

Following graduation from Upper St.Clair School and the University of Richmond in Richmond, Virginia, he played college baseball for the Richmond Spiders. He was named first-team All-CAA after batting .371 with a .656 SLG, 13 home runs, and 57 runs batted in (RBIs). During his final season in a Spider uniform, Casey was a Second Team All-American, earned ECAC Player of the Year honors, and became the first player to win the CAA Triple Crown.
His 31-game hit streak in 1995 ranked as the second longest in the nation that season and was the second longest in Spider history. Casey won over the community and his teammates with unmatched dedication to the game and the people surrounding it. He was traded to the Cincinnati Reds and later played for the Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, and his hometown Pittsburgh Pirates. This is after being selected in the second round of the major league draft by the Cleveland Indians.
Casey’s efforts were recognized in 1999 when he won Major League Baseball’s Hutch Award for unswerving determination and uncompromising devotion to baseball, dedication to team, community, and family, as well as competitive spirit and ability to battle through adversity. Since his retirement from major league baseball, Casey has been inducted into the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame and the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame. He announced his retirement on January 25, 2009, at the age of 34, having played 12 seasons of Major League Baseball.
He officially received the position at MLB Network as a baseball analyst. In 1999 he received the Hutch Award which is given to the player who personifies the spirit, courage, and integrity of former manager Fred Hutchinson. Moreover, together with Conan O’Brien, Casey is a founder of Labels Are For Jars, an innovative anti-hunger organization based in Lawrence Massachusetts. He was nicknamed “The Mayor” because of his enthusiasm for meeting and helping others.
