On the HGTV Canada program Income Property, McGillivray assists homeowners in converting a portion of their house into a source of income to help pay down their mortgage. He offers the homeowners remodeling alternatives in each episode so they can convert their room into a legitimate rental property. The renovation and the grand unveiling are shown to the audience. The 100th episode of the program, which debuted in 2009, aired in 2013. In 2013, Income Property changed its structure from a half-hour to an hour. It was back to being a half-hour show in 2014.
McGillivray helps homeowners with their current homes in the half-hour format, renovating them to make a successful rental unit. He assists people with purchasing homes and then remodeling them to add a lucrative rental unit in the full-hour style. The full-hour show can be considered a themed season, along with others that concentrate on specific types of rental homes. There have been multiple themed seasons in addition to regular non-themed ones. It was broadcast in 33 different countries as of 2013. On HGTV Canada, McGillivray, his wife, and their daughters purchase and transform a property into their forever home in the show Moving the McGillivrays. In the HGTV (USA) series order, he joins as a partner to assist in the renovation of investment houses and their subsequent sale for financial gain. The 2018 season broadcast one season. Similar to income property are vacation house rules. The feature properties on this show are all vacation cottages, which makes it distinctive. Properties are refurbished by McGillivray and the owners into luxurious vacation rentals for investment.
The third and forth seasons premiered on HGTV Canada in the spring of 2022. With the help of Bryan Baeumler, McGillivray transforms his recently acquired lakeside resort—dubbed Renovation Resort (Renovation Resort Showdown in the U.S.)—from a complete wreck into an amazing holiday rental. In 2023 on HGTV Canada, and in the summer of 2023 on HGTV USA, Renovation Resort made their premieres. The fact that it involves resort renovations makes it comparable to Baeumler’s other program, Island of Bryan/Renovation Island. Advised by McGillivray and Baeumler, four teams of contractor-designer duos will go head-to-head in a seven-episode competition series to refurbish each other’s cabins. The winning cabin will award the winning team the ultimate prize.

The open-concept kitchen, which Scott refers to as the focal point of their house, is indeed eye-catching. It has lots of space for entertaining guests and cooking. The expansive living area features luxurious furnishings, a warm fireplace, and floor-to-ceiling windows. Neutral color schemes are sophisticated and appealing to Scott and Sabrina.
