Sara Whaley is an American anchor and reporter working for FOX23 as a multi-media journalist. She joined the FOX23 news team in August 2013, after previously working for KSWO Channel 7 NewsKSWO.
While studying education and communications, Whaley played collegiate softball for the University of Tulsa. She went on to teach English at high school for three years after receiving her degree in 2009 before deciding to pursue her passion. At that point, she officially joined the FOX23 family. In August 2012, she was brought on as an assistant producer, and she later filled in for several reporters. At KSWO in Lawton, Oklahoma, she was hired as a full-time reporter in January 2013.
Within the first month, she wrote a special report on the issues with feral hogs, which featured a hog hunt. She realized then that she was no longer in Tulsa. Sara also notes covering the Moore and Shawnee tornadoes as a highlight of her reporting career. Whaley will never forget interviewing Johnny Depp when he came to Lawton for a screening of “The Lone Ranger”. Sara spent six months in Lawton before making her way back to FOX23. During her spare time, she enjoys running. She has run four marathons and five half marathons.
